The Smart Structures Program looks at the challenges for large structures at sea. Often under extreme conditions such as high waves, sea water, wind, these structures must perform reliably and predictably.
Expertise and experience from top scientists is available trough our collaboration. Simulations and validating of new concepts in one of the laboratories are also possible. For example, the sea going can be simulated with the hexapod.
Also the relationship with the Zero Emission Program is of great importance. New energy carriers require safe structures for storage/bunkering and transhipment. Safe structures are related here to research questions regarding extreme circumstances such as cryogenic to highly toxic or aggressive loads.
